About Usage Credits
Two of our visuals (LLM AI Charts and User Feedback Capture) interact with our cloud services. This has three implications:
- We can check that you have an active (non-expired) organizational license, even if the license key set on your report has expired. Just keep an active organizational license assigned to your account, and you can keep using these visuals.
- These two visuals will never be Power BI Certified, since they use external data access. Rest assured: we're using the same principles that have allowed our other five visuals to get certification.
- There's a variable cost on us (cloud costs), depending on how much you use these features. Usage credits help us manage this cost, and keep our prices reasonable.
When you purchase an organizational license for any of our products, you get usage credits added to your account. The number of credits depends on the duration of the license you purchase:
- Monthly Subscription: 6,000 credits per month
- 1 Year Term: 60,000 credits
- 2 Year Term: 150,000 credits
- 5 Year Term: 600,000 credits
You're able to "stack" licenses. This means if you buy a 1 year license, and then a 2 year license, the key you get with the 2 year license purchase extends the expiration date of your license by 2 years. You'll also receive 210,000 usage credits from the combination of these two purchases.
You can also purchase additional usage credits at any time, if you run low. The cost is $149 for 50,000 credits.
Signing up for a new account also gives you 6,000 free usage credits and an organizational license key good for 21 days, giving you a chance to try out these visuals. If you want to keep using them, it's as easy as purchasing an organizational license!
Don't want to create an account yet? LLM AI Charts also offers a freemium trial mode that requires no account at all. Each freemium visual instance gets a per-instance usage budget (a finite credit grant); once exhausted, you'd either start a fresh instance or move to a paid license. Freemium is intended for evaluation; for sustained use, an organizational license or a BYO connection is recommended.
Usage credits are used for different activity types, depending on the visual:
Credits are used during report design only:
Token-based pricing. For our hosted models, each chart generation is charged a credit rate that's proportionate to our expected token cost for that request — so larger datasets, longer commentary, and more capable models cost more. Typical short charts on a small dataset run only a few credits; bigger or more complex jobs run higher.
- Bring-Your-Own (BYO) LLM — Anthropic, OpenAI, or Azure OpenAI: you pay your provider directly for the tokens, and we add only a small flat operating fee of 1 credit per call.
- Retrieving a cached version: 1 credit.
The exact range for each model is shown in the visual's hover panel ("Current usage credit costs"). Failed attempts are not charged.

Credits beyond the base are used if there is a data payload included in the download. The payload size is determined, per download row, based on the largest elements for the row. This is then divided by the "bytes per credit" and added to the base credits to determine the full charge. Maximum of 40,000,000 credit basis per request (note: this is not actual bytes, but the bytes that were used to determine credit usage). |
